Let’s work together to close the summer lunch gap and make a difference in the lives of children in our community!

One in three kids in Alameda County face the threat of hunger every day.

For many children who rely on school lunch programs, summer vacation can mean the end to their only nutritious meal of the day. In 2016, summer food drives brought over 35,000 pounds of food. This summer, Alameda County Community Food Bank is working hard to promote awareness about the summer lunch sites available throughout the county and providing people with the nutritious food that they need.

This food & fund drive will help the Alameda County Community Food Bank bolster its inventory to address the needs of low income families during the summertime.

  • When low income children are in school, they are eligible for free breakfast and lunch programs, but during the school year, that may mean that come the weekend, food insecurity is heightened for them and their family.
  • When schools gets out for the summer, those safety net feeding programs are often not available to those same children and the added burden of having to pay for childcare by low income parents puts an additional strain on their budgets.
  • Summer can be a time of real uncertainty for low income children, and the Food Bank sees phone calls to its Food Hotline spike during the summer, with parents who make the very difficult call seeking food resources for their families.

FeedtheKiddos.org is hosting an event and virtual food drive to support Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB). ACCFB is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (federal tax ID # is 94-2960297). All food collected and money donated to virtual food drive will go directly to the ACCFB, hence your donation is tax-deductible!
